Tulane student arrested in dorm intrusion case, but no sex crime alleged - FOX 8 Live WVUE

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - A Tulane University student was arrested Monday (Aug. 23) in connection with a weekend case in which an intruder entered three dorm rooms and awakened at least one sleeping female student.

Tulane University police announced the arrest “on felony charges,” but declined to identify the suspect or detail the charges with which he was booked. Court records and a law enforcement source, however, identified the arrestee as 18-year-old Erfa Eskenazi, who was booked Monday with single counts of home invasion and unauthorized entry into an inhabited dwelling.

Eskenazi remained in custody Tuesday morning, awaiting his first court appearance for a setting of bond.

Tulane’s police department said the suspect was a fellow resident of Warren House, the dormitory building in which the intrusions are alleged to have occurred. The department also said the male student “will not be allowed on campus pending the criminal investigation.”

Students were on edge after three reports of room intrusions early Sunday morning. The department initially said the incident was being investigated as an attempted sexual assault. It said the suspect entered three dorm rooms at Warren House at approximately 2:30 a.m., and in the first room, the intruder allegedly climbed on top of a female student sleeping under her covers and exposed his genitals before the woman screamed and caused him to flee.

Police said the same intruder then entered two other dorm rooms, “but did not do or say anything.”

University police have not explained why Eskenazi was not charged with a sex crime after his arrest. Home invasion is a felony punishable in Louisiana by up to 10 years in state prison.

A social media profile bearing Eskenazi’s name says the Tulane student is from Panama City, Panama.
