Michigan reported 6,524 new coronavirus cases and 35 additional deaths between Sunday and Monday, April 25-26.
That means the state averaged 3,262 additional cases over the last two days.
The state is averaging 4,566 new COVID-19 cases per day and 60 new deaths per day over the last week. This is the eighth straight day the state reported a declining seven-day case increase, and it’s the lowest average since March 29.
Since the start of the pandemic, Michigan has reported 825,844 confirmed cases and 17,324 deaths related to COVID-19. Additionally, the state has reported 93,036 probable cases and 1,122 probable deaths, in which a physician and/or antigen test ruled it COVID-19 but no confirmatory PCR test was done.

Eighty-one of Michigan’s 83 counties reported new cases on Monday, as just Schoolcraft and Luce counties reported no new cases. Wayne County led in new cases with 1,381, with the next closest being Macomb with 720 and Oakland with 716.
Other top reporting counties included Kent with 522, Genesee with 257, Ottawa with 206, Muskegon with 173, Ingham with 167, Kalamazoo with 150 and Livingston with 138.
Nineteen counties reported new deaths, led by Wayne with six. Saginaw and Oakland were next with four each, while Genesee and St. Clair each reported three more. Bay and Lapeer counties each reported two additional deaths.
The following counties each reported one additional death: Ottawa, Ingham, Jackson, Midland, Sanilac, Oceana, Huron, Clare, Roscommon, Antrim, Lake and Luce.

Hospitals statewide were treating 3,865 patients with confirmed or suspected cases of COVID-19 on Monday, including 54 pediatric patients and 881 total patients in the ICU. These totals are a decline from 4,422 hospitalizations and 915 in the ICU last Monday, April 19.
Of the 28,902 diagnostic tests processed on Monday, 10.29% came back positive for SARS-CoV-2. The average positivity rate over the last seven days is 11.85%. Each day reported a lower positive test percentage.
Case reporting
First is a chart showing new cases reported to the state each day for the past 30 days. This is based on when a confirmed coronavirus test is reported to the state, which means the patient first became sick days before.

(In a few instances, a county reported a negative number (decline) in daily new cases, following a retroactive reclassification by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. In those instances, we subtracted cases from the prior date and put 0 in the reported date.)
The next chart below shows new cases for the past 30 days based on onset of symptoms. In this chart, numbers for the most recent days are incomplete because of the lag time between people getting sick and getting a confirmed coronavirus test result, which can take up to a week or more.
