CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Bally Sports, the television home for the Cavaliers and Guardians, is getting closer to the long-awaited launch of their direct-to-consumer streaming service.
According to The Streamable, Bally Sports+ is set for a soft launch at some point before July 1, allowing viewers to stream select MLB, NBA and NHL teams on their Bally Sports regional sports networks in their local markets. The streaming service will cost $189.99 annually or $19.99 each month, Sinclair Broadcast Group CEO Chris Ripley said during the company’s first-quarter earnings call on Wednesday.
The Bally Sports RSNs are currently only available to stream on DirectTV Stream as part of the $89.99 Choice Plan. Over the last few years, the RSNs were dropped by YouTube TV, Sling TV, Hulu and fuboTV.
According to reports, Bally has negotiated direct-to-consumer deals with just five MLB teams -- Detroit Tigers, Kansas City Royals, Miami Marlins, Milwaukee Brewers and Tampa Bay Rays. They have streaming rights for 16 NBA teams and 12 NHL teams. While the company is planning a wider launch this fall with NBA and NHL teams, including the Cavaliers and Columbus Blue Jackets, there’s still no progress on the Guardians being available for streaming this summer. Those games could become available in 2023, provided the streaming rights are negotiated.
Currently, Guardians games on Bally Sports Ohio are only available through cable and satellite providers. The Bally Sports app allows viewers to stream games if they have the required cable or satellite subscription.
Bally’s regional networks are owned by Diamond Sports Group, a joint venture company of Sinclair and Entertainment Studios. DSG reached agreement with 16 NBA teams, including the Cavaliers, on a streaming deal in January.
For comparison, the Bally Sports+ expected monthly price point is in the same range as MLB.TV ($24.99) and NBA League Pass Premium ($29.99). A month-to-month ESPN+ subscription is $6.99.
