Coronavirus case numbers continue to decrease in Riverside County - Press-Enterprise

As the number of coronavirus cases continue to decrease Wednesday, April 7, Riverside County entered the less-restrictive orange tier in the state’s reopening plan while the effort to vaccinate all residents age 16 and older continued.

The county reported 139 cases and 25 deaths Wednesday, according to the public health dashboard. In the past week, the county has reported an average of 187 cases daily.

Because of delays in reporting, the number of deaths reflect an updating of statistics, not what happened on a given day. Deaths undergo extensive review before they are attributed to COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus, officials say.

There are 106 patients hospitalized. The number of confirmed patients is down 11% from a week earlier.

The county has administered more than one million vaccine doses, not including those in federal vaccine clinics or multi-county health entities like CVS or Kaiser Permanente, a number that will climb after the county expanded vaccine eligibility to residents age 16 and older this week.

Nearly 370,000 residents have been fully vaccinated as of Tuesday.

Here are the latest numbers, according to county and state public health officials.

Riverside County

Confirmed cases: 295,770 total, up 139 from Tuesday, averaging 187 reported per day in the past week

Deaths: 4,442 total, up 25 from Tuesday, averaging 18 reported per day in the past week

Hospital survey: 106 confirmed and 27 suspected patients hospitalized Tuesday, including 20 confirmed and 2 suspected patients in the ICU, with 18 of 25 facilities reporting. The number of confirmed patients is down 11% from a week earlier.

Tests: 2,765,468 total, up 7,232 from Tuesday, averaging 7,654 reported per day in the past week

Recovered cases: 289,121 total, up 197 from Tuesday, averaging 227 per day in the past week

Vaccinations: The county says 1,149,404 doses have been administered, with 369,775 residents fully vaccinated, as of Tuesday.

Reopening plan tier: Orange (moderate risk level; some indoor business operations are open with modifications) based on these metrics as of Tuesday:

    • New cases per day per 100,000 residents: 3.5
    • Case rate adjusted for testing volume: 3.5
    • Test positivity rate: 2.0% (2.3% in socioeconomically disadvantaged neighborhoods)
    • What’s next: To advance to the yellow tier where more businesses can open or expand capacity, the county would need an adjusted case rate below 2.0 and a positivity rate below 2.0% for the whole county and 2.2% in disadvantaged neighborhoods for two consecutive weeks, and to have been in the orange tier for three weeks. Riverside County moved to the orange tier April 6. If metrics get worse, the county could move back into the more restrictive red tier.
