Kalamazoo County nearly doubles coronavirus case count in last week - mlive.com

KALAMAZOO, MI — For the fourth consecutive day, Kalamazoo County saw a double-digit increase in COVID-19 cases.

On Sunday, the state reported 12 new cases in Kalamazoo County, bringing its total to 166. That’s an increase from 84 one Sunday ago.

The number of new cases reported April 19 is down from the 24 cases reported in the county on Saturday, but the past four days are the only days the county has reported a double-digit spike in cases.

So, while the curve does appear to be flattening across the state, the data in Kalamazoo County seems to suggest the peak has not yet been hit locally.

More positive results are likely on the way too as new drive-thru testing in Kalamazoo County began this past week, allowing for more testing to be done.

A total of 125 testing appointments were scheduled Friday, April 17 when the first rolling site opened at Stones Church in Kalamazoo. Officials told MLive that results were expected to be in within 48 hours of the testing being concluded and more testing is being scheduled for this coming week.

The state health department has also expanded its priority testing criteria to include those who are experiencing mild symptoms. Previously, only front-line workers and those living in long-term care facilities were being tested.
