Eight more people tested positive for COVID-19 in Carlton County, bringing the total number of cases confirmed through lab-based testing to 46 on Friday, according to the Minnesota Department of Health.
That's the largest single-day jump in area cases since 11 new cases were reported in St. Louis County on April 8.
One more person has tested positive in St. Louis County, bringing the total to 59 and 29 of them no longer need to be in isolation. There are 21 active COVID-19 cases in St. Louis County.
On Friday, St. Louis County reported that seven people in the county were hospitalized and one of them was in an intensive care unit.
No new deaths have been reported in St. Louis County since Monday, leaving the total at 10. No deaths have been reported in Carlton County.
Itasca County still has two total cases; its most recent confirmed case was reported April 1. Cook and Lake counties have no confirmed cases.
Pine County has reported 43 cases of COVID-19. As of Wednesday, the Minnesota Department of Corrections was reporting that 15 of those cases were in the Willow River correctional facility.
County public health professionals, medical experts and the state's health department have all said that the number of people reported to have COVID-19 is just the tip of the iceberg, especially since testing is largely limited to health care workers, people who are hospitalized and people who live in congregate care facilities.
Statewide, 3,185 people have tested positive and 1,594 of them no longer need to be isolated. On Friday, 278 people were hospitalized and 111 of them were in an intensive care unit.
The Health Department reported 21 more deaths in Minnesota, bringing the total to 221
