COVID-19 case count reaches 35 in Kandiyohi County - West Central Tribune

The Minnesota Department of Health announced the rise in cases during its daily situational update. The data are current as of 4 p.m. Saturday.

There have been no COVID-19 deaths reported in the local area.

New cases are added to the total once there is a lab confirmed positive test and a county of residence is confirmed during a case interview. Due to a lag between having a test done and getting a positive result and a completed interview, the number of confirmed cases might not equal the number of reported positive cases.

Also, a confirmed case counts toward the figures for patient's county of residence, not where they work. For example, one of the confirmed cases of COVID-19 at Jennie-O Turkey Store in Willmar is in Chippewa County's case total, not Kandiyohi County's.

Jennie-O Turkey Store confirmed on Friday that 14 employees had tested positive for COVID-19. Both processing plants in Willmar are being temporarily shut down due to the outbreak. The company said Friday that operations would wind down over the weekend.

Meeker County also showed an increase of cases, going from four listed Saturday to six listed on Sunday.

Other regional counties stayed steady. Renville and Yellow Medicine counties still have three confirmed cases, Chippewa County has two and Lac qui Parle and Swift counties each have one.

While Bethesda Grand in Willmar, a senior living facility, confirmed Saturday that one staff member has tested positive for COVID-19, the facility is not currently listed on the Minnesota Department of Health website. The only congregate care facility in the region listed is Meeker Manor Rehab Center LLC in Litchfield.

Facilities are listed when exposure is confirmed. Minnesota Department of Health defines exposure has COVID exposure either from a resident, staff member or visiting service provider.

Statewide, Minnesota now has 3,602 confirmed positive cases of COVID-19. This is of 58,987 completed tests.

There have been 272 deaths due to COVID-19. And 1,774 patients have recovered and no longer need to be isolated.

As of 4 p.m. Saturday, there were 285 patients admitted into hospitals, with 115 in the ICU. There have been a total of 829 patients needing hospitalization across the state.

The Minnesota Department of Health expects the number of actual cases in Minnesota is higher than the confirmed numbers, since not all suspected cases have yet been tested.
