One of Escambia County's reported coronavirus cases involves a resident or staff member of a long-term care facility, according to the latest report from the Florida Department of Health.
The Friday morning report identifies 143 cases statewide that are in long-term care facilities, and for the first time, an Escambia County case is on the list. The report from the state does not identify the facility or specify whether the case involves a staff member or a client.
The state is reporting that Escambia County now has 112 cases of the coronavirus, adding 11 more cases overnight. Santa Rosa County's reported cases (47) did not change overnight.
Pensacola is reporting four new cases for a total of 74, while Cantonment added two additional cases for 17. Five additional non-residents have been confirmed COVID-19 patients for a total of 13.
The state is reporting that Escambia County has tested 1,308 people and 9 percent have been positive. In Santa Rosa County, 526 people have been tested and 9 percent have been positive.
Testing numbers reported by the Florida Department of Health have lagged behind numbers reported by locally by Pensacola area hospitals. Hospitals have been providing testing numbers to the Escambia County Emergency Operations Center, which show that as of Wednesday, more than 3,600 samples have been collected in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties.
Statewide, the number of COVID-19-related deaths has risen overnight by 19 to reach 163. Florida has a total of 9,585 cases.
