COVID-19 case tally: 2.17 million cases, 146,055 deaths - MarketWatch

The global case tally for the coronavirus that causes COVID-19 climbed to 2.17 million on Thursday, according to data aggregated by Johns Hopkins University. The death toll rose to 146,055. The U.S. has the highest case toll in the world at 671,425 and the highest death toll at 33,286. The U.S. death toll spiked by a record 4,591 on Thursday, according to a Wall Street Journal analysis of the Johns Hopkins data. Spain has the highest number of cases in Europe at 184,948 and 19,315 deaths. Italy has 168,941 cases and the most deaths at 22,170. France has 147,101 cases and 17,941 deaths, while Germany has 138,135 cases and just 4,093 deaths. The U.K. has 104,150 cases and 13,759 deaths. China, where the disease was first reported late last year, has 83,756 cases and 4,636 deaths, after it revised the death toll from Wuhan, the city that first reported a case, by 50%.
