Judge grants temporary pause in Snyder case - WILX-TV

LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - Former governor Rick Snyder’s criminal case is being paused, according to MLive. Tuesday Genesee District Judge William Crawford granted a motion to pause all further deadlines in his criminal case.

Snyder’s legal team is appealing the court’s decision to continue the case in Genesee County rather than Ingham County.

However, Judge Crawford said the legal teams involved in the case can continue to work with the prosecution.

During Tuesday’s hearing, Assistant Attorney General Bryant Osikowicz said that he believes Snyder’s defense has time to file an appeal without pausing deadlines and called the decision “premature.” He added that the people respect the decision by the judge to grant the stay as well.

During a Thursday, March 18 hearing, Crawford said that a motion to dismiss the case because of a lack of jurisdiction by a one-man grand jury “lacks merit,” and prosecutors can make their case at trial that venue is proper in Genesee County, allowing the misdemeanor case against Snyder to continue here.

Snyder is charged with two counts of willful neglect of duty in relation to the Flint water crisis. Both are misdemeanors and carry a maximum sentence of one year in prison and a $1,000 fine.
