State health officials on Wednesday reported 339 new cases of COVID-19 in Hawaii, including 34 new cases on Hawaii Island.
With the new cases, Hawaii Island’s case COVID-19 count now stands at 418, according to the Hawaii COVID-19 Joint Information Center. Wednesday marked the ninth consecutive day of a double-digit increase in the number of new cases for the island with 209 cases identified since Aug. 25.
Meanwhile, Oahu’s case count increased by 303 to 8,149 and Maui’s by two to 342. Kauai County’s tally held steady at 57. To date, 25 residents have also tested positive while out of the state.
Of the 8,991 cases identified since Feb. 28, some 6,302 of those cases are still considered active. That includes 220 of the known cases on the Big Island.
Statewide, 552 or 6% of COVID-19 patients have required hospitalization, including 16 on Hawaii Island, according to the center’s noon update.
The center also reported one new coronavirus-related death on Oahu. Of the 75 deaths reported among Hawaii residents, 62 were on Oahu, eight were on Maui, three were on Hawaii Island, and one was a Kauai resident receiving treatment in Arizona at the time he died.
