Five new cases reported in Nebraska; Iowa reports an additional case - WOWT

(WOWT) -- Several new cases were reported in the Omaha-metro area — plus one in the Kearney area — on Friday, bringing Nebraska's total number of cases to 39.

PAPILLION, Neb. -- Sarpy/Cass County Health Department announced its fourth case: a man in his 20s who had recently returned from traveling in Europe.

According to the health department's news release, the man has been in self-quarantine since he returned home and is continuing to self-isolate and recover there.

The health department also determined its third case, confirmed Thursday, was community-spread — the first such case under the department's jurisdiction and the third such case in the Omaha-metro area, the release states.

All close contacts of this person have been notified, the release states.

First case in Lincoln


LINCOLN, Neb. -- The first confirmed case of COVID-19 in Lincoln was announced Friday by Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird and the Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department.

He is a 48-year-old who traveled to Colorado on March 8-9.

He developed symptoms March 15 and visited his healthcare provider March 16. He tested positive and was advised to self-isolate at home.

3 new cases in Douglas County


OMAHA, Neb. -- Three more COVID-19 cases have been confirmed in Douglas County.

Two of the individuals recently returned from the southeast US, according to the Douglas County Health Department in a statement issued Friday. They are two men in their 40s and a woman in her 30s. None of them are hospitalized.

All were tested earlier this week and confirmed March 18 or 19.

The three individuals traveled to different areas and the cases are not connected.

Community exposures may have occurred at the following times and locations:

  • Nebraska Furniture Mart, 700 S 72nd St., from 2 to 5 p.m. March 15
  • Pearle Vision Center, 147th and West Maple streets, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. March 16
  • At Home store, 130th Street and West Center Road, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. March 16

Additional case in Iowa


DES MOINES -- During her news conference Friday afternoon, Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds confirmed Iowa's 45th case of coronavirus.

According to the Iowa Department of Public Health, the latest case is an adult age 41-60 living in Allamakee County.

Case reported in Buffalo County


KEARNEY, Neb. — Two Rivers Public Health Department reported one case of coronavirus: a woman in her 40s who had recently traveled. She was self-isolating at home.
