CLEVELAND, Ohio — Mercy Health St. Joseph Warren Hospital in Trumbull County treated a patient who tested positive for the novel coronavirus, known as COVID-19, according to the Warren City Health Department.
Officials at Mercy Health and the Ohio Department of Health could not immediately be reached for comment. If confirmed by ODH today, this would be the fifth case in Ohio.
So far, Ohio has had four other individuals — three in Cuyahoga County and one in Stark County — test positive for coronavirus, according to ODH. Another 24 people are under investigation as of Wednesday afternoon, meaning they have symptoms of COVID-19 or were possibly exposed to the virus.
In all four cases, the patients are in their 50s — three men and one woman. The patients in Cuyahoga County are in home-quarantine, and the Stark County man is hospitalized.
COVID-19 is a respiratory illness with symptoms similar to those of the flu — fever, cough and shortness of breath — that has sickened thousands and killed 3,100 in China, according to the World Health Organization. There is not yet a vaccine for COVID-19, nor are there any medications approved to treat it, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
