Coronavirus in Polk: 4th COVID-19 case confirmed - The Ledger

Entering Friday, Polk County has four positive cases of the new coronavirus, according to the Florida Department of Health.

Added to the list was a 55-year-old man whose case is travel-related. Health officials noted the man traveled to Europe, specifically Spain.

The community where the man lives was not released. He follows the first confirmed case in Lakeland on Thursday, an 88-year-old man.

Since the first case in Polk was identified Tuesday night, a 44-year-old woman with no travel history, the county has had four positive tests. The final one is a 22-year-old woman who is a student who attended classes on Polk State College's Winter Haven campus.

As of Thursday night, the Department of Health reports 67 tests from Polk with four positive results, 31 negative results and 32 awaiting results.

The total cases in Florida have spiked to 432 as of Thursday night's report from the Department of Health.

Dade County leads the state with 101 cases followed by Broward with 96, Palm Beach with 29, Hillsborough with 20, Orange with 19, Collier with 18 and Pinellas with 16.

Men have been the most affected with 253 cases identified (59%) and women with 178 cases (41%). There is one case where the gender has not been identified.

Age group cases are: 60-69 with 91, 50-59 with 69, 40-49 with 65, 20-29 with 62, 70-79 with 56, 30-39 with 49, 80-plus with 24, 10-19 with 15 and 0-9 with 1.
