There were 13 COVID-19-related deaths recorded in the Northland this week, according to the Minnesota Department of Health. Four deaths were in St. Louis County; Itasca County recorded three deaths; Aitkin and Carlton counties each had two; and Lake and Koochiching counties each recorded one death.
Twenty-four more people were hospitalized with COVID-19 in St. Louis County this week, according to St. Louis County Public Health. Two have been pediatric patients. Five patients were admitted to an intensive care unit in the past week.

School outbreaks
Forty-eight Northland schools have COVID-19 outbreaks. The following schools listed have five or more confirmed cases in students or staff who were in the building while infectious during a two-week reporting period, the Minnesota Department of Health reported Thursday:
- Denfeld High School, East High School, Homecroft Elementary, Laura MacArthur Elementary, Lincoln Park Middle School, Lowell Elementary, North Shore Community School, North Star Academy, Ordean East Middle School and Pike Lake Elementary — all in Duluth.
- Hermantown Elementary, Hermantown Middle School and Hermantown Senior High in Hermantown.
- Eveleth-Gilbert Senior High and Franklin Elementary in Eveleth.
- Nelle Shean Elementary in Gilbert.
- Roosevelt Elementary and Virginia Secondary in Virginia.
- Cherry Elementary and Cherry Secondary in Iron.
- Hibbing High and Lincoln Elementary in Hibbing.
- Mesabi East Elementary and Mesabi East Secondary in Aurora.
- North Woods Secondary in Cook.
- Vaughan Elementary in Chisholm.
- Mountain Iron-Buhl Secondary* in Mountain Iron.
- Minnehaha Elementary in Two Harbors.
- Barnum Elementary and Barnum Secondary in Barnum.
- Cloquet Middle School* in Cloquet.
- Lincoln Secondary* and Winterquist Elementary in Esko.

According to data from St. Louis County Public Health, 241 of the county's 921 cases this week were in people younger than 20 years old. People age 30-34 accounted for the largest case total in the county, with 98 people in each age category testing positive this week.
The second-highest total of new cases was reported in people age 20-24, with 94 positive cases.
St. Louis County
Of the 1,653 new cases in the Northland this week, 921 were in St. Louis County, according to the Minnesota Department of Health. Last week, there were 671 cases in the county.

- Hibbing — 127.
- Virginia — 54.

- Britt, Floodwood, Orr — 7 each.
- Iron, Side Lake — 6 each.
All other St. Louis County cities recorded fewer than five cases.
As of Thursday, the county's seven-day testing positivity rate was 11%, up 4.4% from last week. The county conducted 8,352 tests from Oct. 29 to Nov. 4.
Carlton County
Carlton County logged 146 new cases in the last week. Those new cases came from 1,705 tests, putting this week's testing positivity rate at 8.6%, up 2.7% from last week.

- Cloquet — 87.
- Moose Lake — 30.
- Esko — 29.
- Barnum — 15.
- Carlton — 11.

All other Carlton County cities recorded fewer than five cases.
St. Louis, Carlton, Itasca, Koochiching and Aitkin counties had positive test rates above 5% this week. Aitkin, Itasca and St. Louis counties all had rates above 10%. Itasca County's positive test rate was the highest, at 17%. Lake and Cook counties had positive test rates lower than 5%.
In the Northland, 1,114 people received a first dose of COVID-19 vaccine and 1,267 became fully vaccinated in the last seven days. Now, 246,720 residents have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine — about 62% of the Northland's total population — and 235,172 residents are fully vaccinated — about 59% of the total Northland population.
