Loveland’s Artspace will hold a soft opening for its newest exhibit Friday, with the official opening scheduled for the upcoming Night on the Town.
The Women Artists of Artspace Loveland exhibit was put together by Kayo Peeler, a several-year resident of the apartment and gallery for Loveland artists. This exhibit comes months after the space opened for shows in June following over a year of closure due to the pandemic.
Peeler said the idea for the show had several reasons, but most of all was to increase the connection in her community.
“I wanted to bring the women of Artspace together,” she said. “I think everyone has been feeling very isolated and disconnected for the last year and a half. Artists especially fell off the map.”
Art began to pour into the ground level gallery on West Third Street Wednesday afternoon, going up on the wall or stationed around the room.
The diversity of the collection showed the diversity of the artists themselves; abstract paintings standing next to photos stationed next to sculptures, all together show the work of Artspace’s female artists.
Camille Getz and Suzi Holland, two Artspace residents, are among those who will have work featured in the upcoming exhibit.
Holland, who said she has been living at Artspace for around six years, said the event will be a way to bring together her community.
“That’s the reason we are here,” she added.
“It is the most wonderful opportunity,” Getz said. “(This space) is here for us. We have a chance to exhibit our work, and this show is (meant) to blend in with all the women artists.”
Mary Connole, resident manager at Artspace, agreed with Holland, saying the ability to hold exhibits once again helps connect the artist community.
“Our goal isn’t to sell, sell, sell, it is to share,” she said. “(It is) to build an appreciation for art and artists and art every day.”
“It completes the artistic cycle,” Peeler said. “You make the art, but getting it out into the world is the other half of it. That is really important and it keeps us going.”
The exhibit in the Artspace gallery, 140 W. Third St., will have a soft opening Friday from 6 to around 9 p.m. It will have its official opening Nov. 12 from 6 to 9 p.m. during the monthly Night on the Town event and then a third night, Nov. 13 from 6 to 9 p.m., which will also serve as an open mic night.
