Latest DHHR report shows continuing decline in active COVID-19 case numbers - West Virginia MetroNews

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The number of active, known cases of COVID-19 in West Virginia dropped below 8,000 in Friday reporting from the state Department of Health and Human Resources.

That active case number was at 7,800 statewide.

One additional virus death was confirmed, a woman from Webster County, age 68, to bring the total death toll to 2,291.

Overall, the state’s daily virus infection rate was at 3.99 percent heading into the final days of February out of more than 10,000 reported test results.

The cumulative rate was 5.48 percent.

Twenty counties were green, the lowest level for coronavirus transmission which was defined as “minimal” transmission, on the daily County Alert System Map.

Continuing a streak that started in mid-February, no counties were at the highest level on Friday, the red level for “substantial” transmission.

A total of 183,537 state residents or state workers were said to be fully vaccinated.

Community coronavirus vaccination clinics for people over the age of 65 were scheduled in 25 counties on Friday.

West Virginians were being asked to pre-register for future vaccines at vaccinate.wv.gov.
