Larimer County coronavirus case count nears 10,000 as 5 more deaths reported - Loveland Reporter-Herald

Larimer County’s Department of Health and Environment reported 687 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday for a total of 9,545 after not releasing numbers Thursday.

Five more people were reported to have died from the coronavirus, including a 97-year-old Loveland woman; a 96-year-old woman and an 81-year-old man, both from Fort Collins; a 74-year-old Wellington woman; and a 73-year-old Johnstown man.

Seventy-four people have died in Larimer County due to confirmed or suspected coronavirus infections since March. That includes 16 since Nov. 1, making November the deadliest month of the pandemic so far.

The majority of new cases, 349, were from Fort Collins, while 207 were from Loveland, 36 from Wellington, 28 from Berthoud, 22 from Windsor, 12 from Timnath, 10 from Estes Park, nine from Johnstown, seven from LaPorte, two each from Bellvue, Livermore and Lyons, and one from Red Feather Lakes. They range in age from 1 year to 103 years old.

As of 8 p.m. Friday, 170 new cases had been reported within the past 24 hours. The 14-day average of cases per 100,000 residents was 881, a slight decrease from Wednesday’s 886, and 12.3% of tests returned within the past 14 days were positive, the same rate as reported Wednesday.

About 75% of Larimer County hospital beds and 73% of intensive care unit beds were in use, while 102 people were reported hospitalized with the virus, the county website said Friday evening. On Wednesday, 81% of beds and 73% of ICU beds were in use, and 112 COVID patients were in the hospitals in the county.

The total number of outbreaks since March, which is updated on Wednesdays, is 162, out of which 84 are still active.

Earlier this week, Larimer County moved from “Level Yellow” to “Level Red” on the state’s risk measurement dial, indicating “severe risk” from the coronavirus. Businesses are expected to observe a stricter set of public health guidelines because of this.

Information about the virus is available from the county at larimer.org/coronavirus.
