The Neon to host soft reopening starting this Friday - dayton.com

Movie theaters have been among the businesses hardest hit from the coronavirus shutdown. It has taken a considerable amount of planning and retooling for them to reopen safely. This weekend The Neon, downtown’s only cinema, is planning a soft reopening.

“The pieces are coming together,” the theater announced in a statement this week. Starting Friday, June 26, for one week only, The Neon will be showing the new Sundance hit Miss Juneteenth, as well as Won’t You Be My Neighbor?the documentary about Fred Rogers starring Tom Hanks from 2018.  

Each film will play twice per day for one week. Tickets for this "Welcome Back" week will be $5 as staff and patrons alike get used to the new policies and procedures, implemented to keep everyone safe and healthy.

For patrons who are not quite ready to go back to in-person screenings, The Neon is still hosting virtual engagements as well. This week, the cinema is offering Sometimes Always Neverstarring Bill Nighy, and Ella Fitzgerald: Just One of Those Things about the legendary singer.

On July 3, The Neon plans to open with two brand new films. First is John Lewis: Good Trouble, the  documentary about a living legend. The theater also plans to show The Truthstarring Catherine Deneuve, Juliette Binoche, and Ethan Hawke, and directed by Hirokazu Koreeda (director of Shoplifters).
