Another COVID-19 case reported near The Villages as state zooms past 75500 - Villages-News

Another person who lives just outside the northern boundaries of The Villages has tested positive for the potentially deadly Coronavirus.

The patient is a Lady Lake resident, which brings the total in the town to 20. No specific information about the new patient was provided by the Florida Department of Health. But the latest cases in Lake County include two men ages 43 and 56; and three women ages 74, 33, and 35.

As of Sunday, the tri-county area was reporting 1,041 COVID-19 cases among 564 men, 453 women, 22 non-residents and two that were listed as unknown. There have been 41 deaths and 173 people have been hospitalized.

Lake County continues to lead the tri-county area with 464 cases, an increase of 12 from Saturday to Sunday. Those are divided among 243 men, 204 women, 15 non-residents and two that are classified as unknown. There have been 16 deaths and 85 people have required some form of hospital care.

Ten of the Lake County cases are in The Villages and six are in Fruitland Park. Besides the ones identified in those areas and Lady Lake, cases have been reported in Clermont (121), Tavares (82, with 57 at the Lake County Jail), Leesburg (50), Eustis (50), Mount Dora (27), Groveland (22), Mascotte (14), Sorrento (10), Minneola (8), Montverde (4), Howey-in-the-Hills (3), Altoona (2), Okahumpka (1), Umatilla (8), Grand Island (2), Astor (2), Paisley (1) and Yalaha (1).

Marion County increased by just one case Sunday to 311. Those are comprised of 133 men, 173 women and five non-residents. There have been eight deaths and 43 people have been hospitalized.

Two of the Marion County cases have been reported in The Villages, with 33 others in Summerfield. Other Marion County cases have been identified in Ocala (215), Dunnellon (14), Belleview (10), Citra (10), Ocklawaha (6), Anthony (3), Reddick (2), Silver Springs (2) and Fort McCoy (1).

Sumter County continues to hold steady at 266 cases among 188 men, 76 women and two non-residents. There have been 17 deaths and 85 people have been seen in area hospitals.

Sixty-nine of the Sumter County cases are in The Villages, with another 122 reported in Bushnell, 121 of which are at the Sumter Correctional Institution (105 inmates and 16 staff members). Other cases have been identified in Lake Panasoffkee (22), Oxford (19), Wildwood (9), Webster (8), Lady Lake portion of the county (6), Sumterville (5) and Coleman (4). The federal prison in Coleman also has identified six cases among four staff members and two inmates.

All told, Florida is reporting 75,568 COVID-19 cases – an increase of 2,016 in a 24-hour period. Of those, 73,650 are residents. There have been 2,931 deaths and 11,942 people have been hospitalized across the Sunshine State.
