This is seriously big news.
Oatly have launched a totally dairy-free, soy-free soft serve ice cream! With vegan ice cream making gains in flavour and quality but vegan soft serve virtually non-existent, this new launch is much needed.
However, there is a teeny, tiny catch. Oatly Vanilla Soft Serve ice cream will only be available to buy from "food service providers." So, instead of picking it up in your weekly shop, you'll have to get hold of it in restaurants or from food trucks.
If you attended the London Coffee Festival you might have already seen the, um, soft launch of the ice cream, and you can now try it in The Breakfast Club, Saint Espresso and The Parlour in Fortnum & Mason.
It's also available at JENKI, a London matcha bar, to create a Matcha Soft Serve ice-cream, as well as Neat Burger, who are dropping dairy free soft serve milkshakes using Oatly very soon.
We've heard that Oatly are planning an even wider rollout of the soft serve, including appearances at festivals over the summer! Can you imagine a lovely, creamy vanilla Oatly soft serve in the sun? Dreamy.
“At Oatly, we’re committed to making it as easy as possible for people to incorporate more plant-based food and drinks into their everyday life,” Bryan Carroll, general manager for Oatly in the UK and Ireland, said in a statement. “That means creating products for every occasion where you might typically find dairy.”
He added that food service is “critical” to that mission, and that Oatly is “delighted to have launched with like-minded brands that are recognising people want more than just dairy on offer.”
