Where to get soft serve ice cream and custard in Houston - Chron

kristangbang.blogspot.com

All ice cream is great. We all know this.

But in my opinion, soft serve is almost always superior. Few things are better than a towering ice cream cone in danger of toppling at the slightest touch, especially once Houston reaches its truly hellish temperatures.

And thankfully, Houston has more places to get soft-serve than your nearest Dairy Queen.

LET'S EAT: This new website is the Holy Grail for Houston meat lovers

Here are eight places to get soft-serve ice cream and custard in and around Houston:

Connie's Frozen Custard

This well-loved local custard shop doles out sundaes with plenty of toppings available, concretes, milkshakes and even banana splits from its walk-up window.

Aqua S

This Australian ice cream chain specializes in unique (and colorful) flavors of soft serve, developing more than 100 flavors that change bi-monthly in every shop. Aqua S may be best known for its Sea Salt soft serve, a bright blue ice cream that's "sweet and creamy with a hint of saltiness."

9889 Bellaire Blvd. D232; 506 Yale Suite D

BAE & Co.

The Houston outpost of this Los Angeles-based soft serve shop recently opened, offering Instagrammable cones with plenty of toppings such as Pocky and edible gold hearts.

PARDON?: Buc-ee's is building the world's largest convenience store—but it won't be in Texas

Rita's Italian Ice & Frozen Custard

Rita's puts its own twist on soft serve with Gelatis, layers of fruity Italian ice and frozen custard served in a cup. There's also swirled and classic frozen custard cones for the purists.

2802 White Oak Drive

SOMISOMI

SOMISOMI specializes in a Korean dessert known as "Ah-Boong," a baked, fish-shaped waffle cone with your choice of filling (such as cream cheese, Nutella or red bean) and topped with fluffy soft serve. Ice cream flavors include milk, ube, black sesame, matcha and more.

23330 Grand Cir Blvd. Suite 150, Katy; 3520 Highway 6, Sugar Land

Red Circle Ice Cream

Red Circle Ice Cream takes it a step further and adds churros to its soft serve with at least six different kinds of "Frosty Churro" treats featuring ice cream, churros and toppings such as caramel popcorn, cookie butter and brown sugar drizzle

CHEERS: Swanky new Gatsby-themed bar now open in Montrose

Twistee Treat

This is as classic as soft serve gets—ice cream served out of a giant ice cream cone. Get a quintessential towering cone of chocolate-vanilla swirl soft serve, or try a "Twirl," a blend of ice cream and candy.

9730 Jones Road; 7018 Fry Road, Cypress

Rollie's Frozen Custard

This family-owned Houston custard shop has all kinds of sundaes and concretes available. Bring your furry friend for a Canine Custard—vanilla custard topped with a dog treat.
