Here are updates about coronavirus cases in Brevard, according to the Florida Department of Health, as of Aug. 1, 2020.
Brevard broke a five-day streak and registered coronavirus cases in the triple digits. The county saw one new coronavirus death and 101 cases, according to data from the Florida Department of Health.
The latest death recorded Saturday was an 89-year-old male. It is not known whether his case was travel-related. He did have contact with a known case, and his case was confirmed July 18.
This comes on the day before Hurricane Isaias was set to make landfall on Florida's east coast. COVID-19 testing sites were temporarily closed to prepare for the Category 1 storm.
The last time Brevard recorded more than 100 cases was on July 27.
In five days, FDOH data show Brevard recorded 50 new deaths due to the virus with one Saturday, six deaths Friday, 13 on Thursday, 10 on Wednesday and 20 on Tuesday.
It's important to note the exact dates of these deaths are not made public by the Department of Health; it's unlikely all 50 people died in this four-day period. Often there is a lag between the person's death and when it is reported by the DOH.
In total, Brevard has lost 115 people to the virus, with 57 of those deaths connected to long-term care facilities, and 97 deaths reported in July. Victims ranged in age from 48 to 103.

Brevard has 5,521 total cases, an increase of 101 from the previous day.
Here is info about the six deaths recorded Friday.
• an 89-year-old male whose case was not travel-related. It is not known whether he had contact with a known case. His case was confirmed July 1.
• a 96-year-old female. It is not known whether her case was not travel-related. She did have contact with a known case. Her case was confirmed July 10.
• a 77-year-old female whose case was not travel-related. She did have contact with a known case. His case was confirmed July 17.
• an 80-year-old female whose case was not travel-related. She did have contact with a known case. Her case was confirmed July 24.
• an 88-year-old male whose case was not travel-related. It is not known whether he had contact with a known case. His case was confirmed July 30.
• a 75-year-old female whose case was not travel-related. She did have contact with a known case. Her case was confirmed July 30.
In total, Brevard has conducted 79,206 coronavirus tests. Of those, 5,521 have tested positive and 73,631 have been negative.
On July 31, of the 2,140 tested, 2,041 people were negative and 99 tested positive for a percent positive of 4.6%.
Of those who tested positive since the pandemic began, 5,500 are residents and 21 are nonresidents. The median age of those testing positive in Brevard remained at 41, statewide, that number was 40. The percent positive for total cases in the county increased to 6.97%. So far, 2,567 males have been diagnosed with COVID-19 and 2,930 females.
FDOH data show 402 Florida residents have been hospitalized in Brevard since the pandemic began, an increase of 11 from the previous day.
According to the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration, at noon Saturday, Brevard had 115 people hospitalized for COVID-19 in its seven major hospitals, down 13 from the previous day. AHCA data also show 31% available capacity at the 1,297 hospital beds in those hospitals. AHCA data show the county had 27% of its 169 ICU (intensive care unit) beds available.

Statewide stats
The state added 9,642 new cases Saturday. It's day 39 in Florida in which the state registered at least 5,000 new cases.
The total number was 480,028, with 474,621 residents and 5,407 non-residents testing positive. The percentage of people testing positive for COVID-19 here increased to 13.03%.
The state registered 439 new hospitalizations, bringing the total number of Florida residents hospitalized since the pandemic began to 26,972.
The number of deaths of Florida residents rose to 7,022, an increase of 179 from the previous day. On Friday, the state made a record for highest single-day deaths reported with 257.
Overall, FDOH data show 3,684,875 have been tested statewide; 480,028 were positive and 3,199,415 tested negative for the coronavirus.
