One new COVID-19 case reported Saturday in Yellowstone County - Great Falls Tribune

Yellowstone County reported a man in his 60s as Montana’s newest coronavirus case on Saturday, raising the state’s total 540.

The newest report of a confirmed case was released hours after Big Horn County announced it was tightening some restrictions in the wake of a spate of new confirmed cases.

Of the 540 overall reports, 472 people have recovered, the state said on its covid19.mt.gov website. There have been 18 deaths attributed to the respiratory illness, 50 cases are active and one person remains hospitalized out of 68 hospitalizations.

There have 46,754 tests administered, an increase of 866 from the day before. There are no longer any active cases in northcentral Montana. Two cases in Lewis and Clark County remain active.

Yellowstone County has had 104 confirmed cases. Of those, 13 remain active. The county has had three deaths attributed to COVID-19, according to the state.

Since May 31, 35 new cases have been reported in Montana. On May 30, the state reported 12 new cases, its biggest tally in six weeks. Ten of those reports were out of Big Horn County. The county, which includes the Crow Nation, has had 36 confirmed reports of the coronavirus. Of those, 26 cases remain active.

Big Horn County reported Friday that a man in his 60s had died due to the coronavirus, and implemented more restrictions.

These include employees at all businesses in Big Horn County must have their temperatures checked before starting work, people who work at food businesses must wear masks and crowd sizes regulated for church, weddings and funerals.

Gov. Steve Bullock said Thursday that funding was being made available through the federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act to help local governments with COVID-19-related expenses, give more financial aid to small businesses and boost in-state processing and storage capacity for local meat processors.

The money for local governments can be used for items like medical expenses, public health expenses, or employees’ regular and overtime hours substantially dedicated to mitigating or responding to COVID-19, Bullock said.

The state on Monday began phase two of reopening after a stay-at-home order was put in place on March 26. In phase two, out-of-state visitors are no longer required to complete a 14-day quarantine, groups of 50 people can gather, if they maintain physical distance and restaurants, bars and gyms can operate at 75% capacity.

Montana's three entrances to Yellowstone National Park reopened. Parts of Glacier National Park are scheduled to open on Monday.
