ANTIOCH — Two suspects in the fatal shooting of a teenager nearly a decade-and-a-half ago were arrested, authorities said.
Around 11:37 a.m. March 27, 2005, Edgar Martinez was lying in bed asleep at an apartment in the 300 block of West 20th Street when multiple shots fired by two people struck him, according to a statement, police said.
Martinez, 17, died at the scene sometime after an argument between Candice Carter and several men she believed were rival gang members.
Carter returned to the apartment after the argument, and shots were fired, but police said Martinez was not part of the initial argument with her.
Around 4 p.m. last Thursday, Pittsburg and Antioch police served a warrant at a Pittsburg residence and took Carter into custody.
In a statement Monday, police said investigators presented a case to the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office, and obtained warrants for the arrests of two other suspects.
Two men, identified as George Siever, 35, and Brian Gray, 35, were arrested Monday and Tuesday respectively in Antioch.
“The Antioch Police Department routinely reviews cold cases in an effort to find justice for the victims of senseless and violent crimes,” Antioch police said in a statement.
“It is by no mistake that complex cases such as these come to a successful resolution because of an incredible amount of teamwork, professional collaboration, and community outreach.”
