New Jersey NJ Health Department confirms no coronavirus case Aliza Chasan 8:57 PM, Jan 23 - WPIX 11 New York

EDGEWATER, NJ — The New Jersey Department of Health has confirmed that there is not a coronavirus case in the state, officials said Thursday.

"The NJ Department of Heath consulted with the CDC and it was determined patient did not meet CDC criteria for testing for the novel virus," the State said in a statement.

The case was suspected when someone was taken to a New Jersey hospital. China's National Health Commission has confirmed 830 cases of the new coronavirus with 25 deaths. A Washington man was recently diagnosed with the virus .

"The hospital, the Department of Health and local health officials are working together to gather additional information," the Health Department said in a statement. "No definitive diagnosis has been made regarding the patient. As a precautionary measure, the hospital is following all appropriate infection control protocols."

A person at the patient's building told PIX11 they saw the patient being taken from the building. The people involved were wearing surgical masks.

Wuhan, China has been the epicenter of the outbreak of the coronavirus first detected last month.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued a level 3 travel warning Thursday for people visiting Wuhan.

Under the warning, the CDC is urging travelers to “avoid all non-essential travel” to the city.

The ongoing outbreak of respiratory illness caused by the virus can spread from person to person and preliminary information suggests that older adults and people with underlying health conditions may be at increased risk, according to the CDC.

If you have traveled to Wuhan recently and feel sick with fever, cough or have difficulty breathing, the CDC says you should:

· Seek medical care right away. Before you go to a doctor’s office or emergency room, call ahead and tell them about your recent travel and your symptoms.
· Avoid contact with others.
· Not travel while sick.
· Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when coughing or sneezing.
· Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer if soap and water are not available.
