Leechburg Area School District buildings went under a “soft lockdown” Tuesday morning after a bomb threat was made against the district, officials said.

Leechburg police Chief Jason Schaeffer said his department was dispatched at 9:04 a.m. for reports of a bomb at one of the district’s schools.

Borough police, state police and police dogs checked the school, he said. It was determined that there was no threat.

The scene was cleared at 11:07 a.m.

Superintendent Tiffany Nix sent two voicemails to district families notifying them of the soft lockdown and when it was cleared.

In her first message, she said the district was entering the lockdown “out of an abundance of caution.”

“We have been cleared by the Pennsylvania State Police and all students are safe and sound. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we take every precaution to keep our buildings safe,” Nix said in her second message.

Schaeffer said a student made the threat. He said police are conferring with the Armstrong County District Attorney’s office to see if charges will be filed.
