Pennsylvania’s seven-day average of new covid cases on Saturday dropped below 1,000 for the first time since October.
The state added 832 additional covid cases to its total Saturday, with its seven-day average falling to 909. It’s the first time the average has been in triple digits since Oct. 1, when the average was 961.
Overall, the state has reported 1,201,375 cases since the pandemic began last March.
The Allegheny County Health Department reported 48 additional cases Saturday, the eighth straight day with double-digit cases in the county. Allegheny’s seven-day average of new cases fell to 61. The county’s total climbed to 101,223.
Westmoreland County added 18 cases with its total reaching 34,091.
Elsewhere in the region, a look at other counties and their change from Friday:
- Armstrong: 5,977 (+3)
- Beaver: 15,410 (+5)
- Butler: 17,446 (+13)
- Fayette: 13,183 (+6)
- Indiana: 6,345 (+7)
- Somerset: 7,980 (+13)
- Washington: 17,760 (+8)
Vaccinations
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Pennsylvania has 53.5% of its population 18 and older fully vaccinated and 70.5 of that same population with at least one dose of a covid vaccine. The state has 5,438,667 adults fully vaccinated and 7,170,456 who have received at least one shot.
Allegheny County is at 44.56% fully covered and 60.79% with at least one shot, according to Pennsylvania Department of Health data. There are 545,153 county residents fully vaccinated and another 198,543 partially vaccinated.
In Westmoreland County, 37.13% of the population is fully vaccinated and 46.72% have received at least one shot. The county has 135,065 people fully vaccinated and 35,003 partially vaccinated.
Hospitalizations
Covid hospitalizations in the state fell for the sixth straight day, decreasing by 31 to 1,076. The total has dropped in all but two days this month. There are also 269 covid patients in an ICU and 160 requiring a ventilator.
Allegheny County’s covid hospitalization total creeped up by five to 112. Overall, it’s fallen by 88 since the start of the month. Westmoreland County’s total remained flat at 17.
Deaths
Pennsylvania’s Department of Health reported an additional 16 deaths with its total climbing to 27,203.
The Allegheny County Health Department, which reports its death totals separately, added one death: a person in their 60s from earlier this month. The county’s total rose to 1,945.
Westmoreland County’s death total stayed at 766.
