CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Active COVID-19 cases in West Virginia fell below 6,000 on Wednesday for the first time since March 25.
The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) confirmed 5,983 cases in its daily report Wednesday. The DHHR added 261 new cases in the report. The daily positivity test rate on Wednesday is 3.05%.
Four additional deaths were confirmed including a 60-year old male from Berkeley County, a 36-year old male from Webster County, a 72-year old male from Kanawha County, and a 67-year old female from Raleigh County. The statewide death total is 2,767.
“The pain of grief runs long and deep,” said Bill J. Crouch, DHHR Cabinet Secretary in a release. “Scheduling a COVID-19 vaccine is the most powerful way to prevent further loss of life to this devastating disease.”
More than 705,000 West Virginians have been full vaccinated against COVID-19, equaling to 39.3%. 47.4% of West Virginians have received at least one shot, 47.4%.

The DHHR noted on its COVID-19 dashboard that updates would only occur Monday-Friday, except for holidays, a change from being every day.
Free pop-up COVID-19 testing is available Wednesday in Barbour, Berkeley, Boone, Calhoun, Doddridge, Jefferson, Lincoln, Morgan, Putnam, Tyler/Wetzel, and Wayne counties.
