Coronavirus in Oregon: 47 deaths, 2352 cases as case trajectory trends down - OregonLive

The Oregon Health Authority on Wednesday announced 47 new COVID-19 deaths and 2,352 new cases, marking the latest evidence delta spread is slowing after a brutal summer surge.

The rolling seven-day average of cases has now decreased to 1,842, down 21% from the Sept. 2 peak. Average daily cases are now at their lowest levels since mid-August.

“We have been able to cut the projected length of this surge, that is really good news,” Gov. Kate Brown said in a press conference Tuesday. “However there are still some challenging times ahead and we must remain vigilant.”

Those challenging times include not only the potential for a resurgence of delta, but the aftermath of those already infected. Hospitalizations and deaths typically come after infections, with active hospitalizations down only 3% from the peak and deaths remaining exceedingly high.

The state reported hospitals remain under a significant strain responding to the virus, with 7% of staffed intensive care beds available and 8% of staffed non-ICU beds open.
